Contrary to what many people think, there are actually nursing homes in the Philippines. The most well known and probably one of the pioneers is Golden Acres which is located in Quezon City, near SM North EDSA. There are other nursing homes as well, though perhaps not as numerous or common as in the US. While it's true that in the Philippines, families care for their elderly, there are also those who for some reason end up homeless. Some are abandoned, some have no relatives to care for them.

There are also some nursing homes that have sprung up to cater to elderly foreigners who wish to retire in the Philippines but do not have any relatives in the Philippines. One such home is the Rose Princess Home 1 in Cabuyao, Laguna which caters to elderly Japanese who find living in Japan on a pension expensive. Now there is the Mt. Vista Executive Retirement Center in Cebu City that caters to retired American, Canadian, and British retired executives. This facility has the best attributes of an Adult Congregate Living Facility (ACLF), a nursing home, and a retirement home. The best of each of these was incorporated into the Mt. Vista ERC. The staff consists of Registered Nurses, Caregivers (CNAs), medical technicians, and adjunct medical doctors, chiropractic doctors, alternative care medical doctors, naturopathic counselors, and those trained in the healing touch of massage, oriental and Western.

Our centers are designed for people who would like to care for themselves, with some or little assistance but might need daily/weekly medical services. We also cater to residents that require a greater need for attention from our Caregivers and or live in Nurses! We offer full time one-on-one personal care for those that require a greater level of attention. We SPECIALIZE in caring for senior executives from America and Europe. We also can provide for chelation therapy, peroxide therapy, Vitamin B 17 therapy, and many forms of anti-cancer therapy using an alternative medical approach. It is our number one goal to keep our residents healthy. To prevent them from getting cancer and other diseases. And for those that may have diseases, to offer the hope of eliminating them. Cebu City is home to one of the best and largest malls in the Philippines, the Ayala Mall. We are also close to the SM Malls, and the Robinsons Malls.

The Philippines has both the available manpower and culture to support retirees. The educational system churns about 300,000 to 400,000 graduates every year and about 7% or 21,000 to 28,000 come from medical-related degrees. The abundance of medical service providers in the country is reflected in the endless stream of nurses, physical therapists and care givers from the Philippines going to other countries like the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. With retirees going to the Philippines, these people need not go to these countries and leave their families behind just to earn the levels of income they would get catering to other nationalities. They can provide the same service and perhaps receive the same income levels serving these nationalities here in the Philippines.
