Ithaca is at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake. Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls and Robert H. Treman state parks offer plenty of recreation. The Cayuga Wine Trail begins at this point and continues north on scenic SR 89, passing several wineries along the western shore of the lake.

Founded in 1892 as a conservatory of music, Ithaca College, atop South Hill off SR 96B, offers drama and music presentations and a public art gallery.
