(Interesting facts about Concord, NC)
In 1775 disagreeing German and Scotch-Irish residents of Cabarrus County finally decided on the location of the county seat; they named the site Concord and the main thoroughfare Union Street. A memorial garden on Spring Street between Cabarrus and Corban avenues contains the graves of many Concord founders.
The first gold nugget reputedly discovered in the nation was found nearby by a 12-year-old boy who was wading in Little Meadow Creek. Stories relate that the 17+ pound chunk was used as a doorstop before the boy's father took it to Fayetteville in 1802 and sold it to a jeweler for the "big price" of $3.50.
