Ypsilanti: The youthful Greek revolutionary General Demetrios Ypsilanti held the entire Turkish Army at bay and escaped without losing even one of his 300 soldiers. His bravery would cause a muddy but energetic village in the wilds of southeastern Michigan to become his namesake in 1832. This city on the banks of the Huron River is an industrial banking, and educational center and is the home of Eastern Michigan University, Riverside Park and the noted Water Tower.
Summer events include the Frog Island Jazz Festival, in Depot Town the third weekend in June, and the Heritage Festival, held the third weekend in August.
