Midland: The development of Midland from a sleepy lumbering town into a well-planned and culturally active city is entwined with the fast growth of the Dow Chemical Co. Large brine deposits precipitated the establishment of the company in Midland.
The Tridge, a three-legged pedestrian bridge, is near downtown at the confluence of the Tittabawasee and Chippewa rivers. The Pere Marquette Rail-Trail provides 22 miles of hiking trail between the Tridge and Coleman Road. The riverfront area also features picnicing, walking trails, an outdoor concert park and a farmers' market.
