Bay City
Lumber barons took the city over to build luxurios mansions and host lavish social functions, still the mansions can be seen above the tree tops and over fences.
Bay City is a major distribution point for the industrial and agricultural resources of east-central Michigan. Many domestic and foreign freighters pass through the city's busy port. Shipping and commerce have been the foundation of Bay City's prosperity since the demise of its large lumbering industry around 1900. Mansions built by the lumber barons can still be seen along the tree-shaded residential streets. The Saginaw River and Saginaw Bay provide excellent recreational opportunities. Bay City State Park is 5 miles north on SR 247 on the Lake Huron shore. With a state park and recreational area, there is a great place for walking, hiking or biking or just taking it easy. With musuems and nature centers, you are sure to find something educational and fun.
