Bishop Hill Settled by some Swedish religious radicals, they continued to teach the ways to holiness from remaining as simple as possible. The community had a communist social structure and economy, and in 1861 all ideals and practises were abruptly torn apart from within.

To witness the crafts and old style homes of the Swedish settlers in a frozen state, you can witness realistic reenactments and demonstrations. One of the foremost folk artists is from Bishop Hill, and primitive artistry can be seen on display here. An accurate and fair representation of the life and times is on display at the local musuem.
