What is now Pensacola started out as Fort San Carlos in 1698. The town has flown the flags of Spain, France, England, The Confederate States, and the United States, and its government has changed hands 13 times. The British used the harbor briefly as a base in their war with the US in 1814, until routed by Andrew Jackson, who later completed here, the sale of Florida to the US in 1821.
Pensacola was the territorial capital until 1822, and Andrew Jackson was a resident while the first territorial governor of Florida. Pensacola is home to the US Naval Air Station, a center for electronic warfare and cartographic training. It is also home of the Blue Angels precision flying team.
There are miles of sugar white beaches and emerald waters, making this a must visit for the tourist. There is boating, swimming, fishing, sunbathing, in addition to greyhound racing. There are many historic sites, parks, and museums in the area.
