Inverness is the county seat of Citrus County, and has a population of approximately 5,900 within the city limits. In the middle of downtown is the historic courthouse, which is in the process of being completely restored. Inverness is on US 41. The old downtown area has also been re-developed and restored, offering many new businesses and stores, as well as fine restaurants. The new courthouse houses the Citrus County Commission, local courts, and many county offices.
