In the early 1900s, Tarpon Springs was know as a center for sponge fishing, when Greek divers came to the area. This Greek influence still
exists in the area's restaurants and bakeries. Sponge shops are still plentiful as well.
The area hosts many events, including the Tarpon Springs Arts & Crafts Festable, The Taste of Tarpon Springs, and the JC Penny Golf Classic. The Coral Sea Aquarium is a "must see" place, as is the Spongeorama Exhibit Center. Many nice restaurants as well as shopping, are in the area.
