HOW TO GET RID OF INTERNET EXPLORER (IE)

As you know MS Internet Explorer is the second worse software program ever written, with MS Outlook Express being the absolute worst!  You also probably know, IE can NOT be deleted (thanks to Microsoft).  So the best you can do to get rid of IE is to "neuter" it... make it "impotent" so to speak. How to do this is detailed here. This is based on VISTA, but should work with XP, etc. as well.

#1.  Go to the Control Panel--->    #2.Choose Classic View --->    Looks like-->   

  #3.  Click on Default Programs icon      ---------->    

        #4.  Click on "Set your default programs"--------->

  This is the window box for setting your default programs.  #5.  To change, highlight the program you wish to change on the left. To change Internet Explorer,  then highlight it and then on the right box, choose "Choose defaults for this program".

  Then set to Firefox. (You need to download Firefox first). I wanted to set this to Slimbrowser (my favorite) but I could only choose Firefox.

        Choose default.       

Now that you have changed the default for Internet Explorer, next we go back to the Default Programs window, and make

changes there.

   #6.   Click on "Associate a file type or protocol with a program"

           This will take you to a Window with a LONG list of file Extensions.

           Here is where you "neuter" and "castrate" Internet Explorer!

           I will show several examples of this. Repeat steps for EACH change.

   #7.  Here you see the file Extension of .itss and it is

           associated with Internet Explorer.

     #8.  Next you highlight it with blue by selecting it.

       #9.  Then when you click on the line after it is blue, a window is

              opened as example to the left. You can see the dreaded Internet

              Explorer is selected (highlighted).   Next you go to the Browse

               button and click it.

    Now you are in a Dialog Box in your Program Files.  You next go to

    your Mozilla Firefox folder, as this is where your Firefox browser

    resides, and open it.

   After you open the Mozilla Firefox folder, you will see the

   Firefox program icon. Click it!

   Now this opens the "Open With" window. You will see that now

   Firefox is highlighted.

    Go to the OK button at bottom of window and click it!

    After clicking the OK button, this File Extension will from

    now on be opened with Firefox...  NOT Internet Explorer!

    Repeat this for Each and Every Extension now associated with Internet Explorer.

    Then you will have "neutered" and "castrated" this terrible browser! You have,

    in effect, cut it's ugly balls off!!!!  Made it ineffective and useless to bother you anymore.
